gsnap
A screenshot tool that does just what you need, nothing more: select, adjust, draw an arrow, save, copy — and paste the file path straight into your AI agent CLI.
Windows 10/11 · single .exe, no install · macOS 14+ · Apple Silicon & Intel
Why gsnap?
Most screenshot apps grow into editors, cloud uploaders and account systems. gsnap was made the other way round: keep only the steps used every day, make each one a single key, and get out of the way.
Capture
Press PrtScn (or ⇧⌘2 on Mac) and the screen freezes, across every monitor.
Adjust the region
Drag to select, then drag the handles. Arrow keys nudge by a pixel, Ctrl+arrows resize.
Draw arrows
Press A and drag. Scroll to change thickness, 1–7 to change color, Ctrl+Z to undo.
Saved automatically
Enter or double-click writes a PNG to Pictures\gsnap. No save dialog.
Copied to the clipboard
The image is on the clipboard, ready to paste into chat, email or docs. Or switch it to copy the file path.
Paste the file path
Ctrl+Shift+V types the latest screenshot's path into any app, then restores your clipboard.
Made for AI agent CLIs
Terminal coding agents read images from a file path, not from the clipboard. With gsnap you capture, switch to the terminal and press one hotkey: the path is pasted right into your prompt.
- Capture the bug with PrtScn, point at it with an arrow, press Enter.
- Switch to the terminal and type your question.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+V (⌃⇧V on Mac) — the PNG path is pasted in.

Every hotkey can be changed in Settings… from the tray (Windows) or menu bar (macOS) icon.

Install
Windows
- Download
gsnap-windows.exeand put it anywhere (e.g. a Tools folder). Run it — gsnap lives in the system tray. - Windows may show “Windows protected your PC” because the app is new and unsigned: click More info → Run anyway.
- Screenshots go to
%USERPROFILE%\Pictures\gsnap. To start with Windows, put a shortcut inshell:startup.
macOS
- Unzip
gsnap-mac.zipand drag gsnap.app into Applications. It lives in the menu bar. - First launch: if macOS says it can’t verify the developer, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
- Allow Screen & System Audio Recording (needed to capture), then quit and reopen gsnap. Accessibility is only needed for the paste-path hotkey.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no ads, no upload — gsnap never sends anything over the network. Your screenshots stay on your disk.
Copy the image or the path?
By default the image goes to the clipboard after each capture. In Settings you can switch it to copy the file path instead. The paste-path hotkey works either way.
Does it work with several monitors and Retina screens?
Yes. The capture covers every monitor, and on macOS the PNG is saved at full Retina resolution.
